ministry opportunities

Not only do opportunities for personal ministry aboud at Good Shepherd, we believe that God's desire is for every member (and visitor!) to have a personal ministry and mission. We also believe that God's gifting and calling are as unique and varied as are His children. So, we are glad to help you plug into an existing ministry or pursue a vision for ministry that God has given you. The Church exists to call people together to worship God and equip them to serve Him.
Some existing ministries (to name a few):
  • Clothing collection and delivery to Crisis Assistance
  • Food Pantry
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Multiple music ministries (including programs at nursing homes and Uptown Men's Shelter/Rebound)
  • Drama ministry
  • Lay Renewal outreach (non-clergy sharing of what God has done in contexts outside our church)
Some ministries started by members/visitors with a "vision" for new ministry:
  • Community drama, community children's choir, choral festival
  • Singer/songwriter night - coffeehouse format
  • The "Art Wall" - members creating original art connected with upcoming sermon texts and themes
  • Ballfield ministry - Old Providence baseball league; church softball league
  • Tutoring/mentoring at Old Providence Elementary (our neighborhood public elementary school)
  • Programs to Carriage Club (neighborhood nursing home Alzheimer's unit) and Rebound (Uptown Men's Shelter rehab program)
  • Worship Team "on the road" - music/worship programs in other churches
